Sheridan Ross P.C. is pleased to share that shareholder Brian Boerman has been named Intellectual Property Litigation Lawyer of the Year for Colorado in the inaugural class of the RankWell Legal Awards, announced July 30, 2026.
RankWell Legal is an independent recognition program for attorneys and law firms across the United States. In its first year, the program considered more than 5,000 legal professionals across 27 categories spanning 11 states. Honorees were chosen by the program’s reviewers against a defined set of criteria — the program does not use public voting and does not require a purchase to be considered or selected.
Brian’s practice covers the full life cycle of a client’s intellectual assets. He drafts and prosecutes patents, counsels clients on portfolio strategy, and enforces those rights when it matters most. In federal court, he represents clients in intellectual property disputes at every stage of a case — from early due diligence through trial — and he brings substantial experience in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, including inter partes review.
His prosecution work is concentrated in the electrical engineering and software fields. He also prepares patent validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate opinions, and he helps clients audit their trade secret and patent protection systems, then builds out the strategies and internal programs needed to close any gaps he finds.
That combination — a litigator who also lives in the prosecution and counseling side of the practice — is central to how Sheridan Ross approaches IP disputes. Understanding how a patent was built informs how it is defended, and vice versa.
Brian was elected a shareholder of the firm in January 2025 and he is also now serving as a co-chair of the Litigation Practice Group.
