William Fischer is a registered patent attorney with a diverse technical and legal background spanning electrical engineering, biotechnology, and software. At Sheridan Ross, he focuses on patent preparation and prosecution in technologies related to electrical and computer engineering, including software, semiconductors, AI, control systems, and medical devices.

Bill brings more than a decade of experience advising clients ranging from startups to global corporations. His practice includes portfolio strategy, invention harvesting, patentability and freedom-to-operate analysis, and patent risk assessment. He has also counseled clients on patent licensing and litigation support matters.

Before joining Sheridan Ross, Bill worked at several IP-focused law firms and in-house legal roles, where he gained extensive experience drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications across a range of disciplines, including software systems, materials science, and biomedical technologies.

Bill earned his law degree from the University of Colorado Law School and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. He is also trained in molecular bioscience and biotechnology, holding both a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in related fields. Bill is admitted to practice in Colorado and Washington, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
