Jack DaSilva

Jack DaSilva is a patent attorney who helps clients protect and advance innovations across a range of technologies, with particular depth in chemistry, materials science, medical devices, and mechanical technologies. With a Ph.D. in chemistry and experience as both an attorney and entrepreneur, Jack brings a practical understanding of the technical, legal, and business considerations that shape intellectual property strategy.

Jack’s practice includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications, responding to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office actions, conducting examiner interviews, performing prior art searches, and preparing invalidity analyses. His experience spans technologies including material compositions, hydrogels, medical devices, network architecture, mechanical systems, and other complex technologies. He also has experience with intellectual property litigation and disputes involving trade secrets, contracts, fiduciary duties, and related business issues.

In addition to his legal practice, Jack co-founded Lattice Therapeutics, Inc., where he served as Chief Operating Officer and a member of the board. In that role, he has been involved in corporate governance, contract negotiation, equity financing, federal grant compliance, hiring, and other aspects of building and operating an early-stage technology company. He also prepared inventor disclosures and patent applications and has worked on federal grant proposals. This experience gives Jack firsthand perspective on the challenges entrepreneurs and emerging companies face as they develop technology, raise capital, and build intellectual property portfolios.

Jack earned his law degree, with honors, from The George Washington University Law School, where he received the Marcus B. Finnegan Prize in Intellectual Property and served as Notes Editor of the AIPLA Quarterly Journal. He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Utah, where his research focused on molecular magnets and included work in materials chemistry, superconductors, cryogenic fluids, organic and inorganic synthesis, magnetometry, and polymer chemistry. He earned his B.S. in chemistry from Birmingham-Southern College.

Before entering private practice, Jack served as a student intern to the Honorable Susan G. Braden of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and to Administrative Law Judge Sandra (Dee) Lord at the U.S. International Trade Commission. He is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Jack has authored and co-authored legal scholarship on patent litigation and ITC investigations and is the co-author of numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications stemming from his work in chemistry and materials science.

Outside the office, Jack is a private pilot and enjoys mountain biking and crossword puzzles.
