Sterlon draws from more than two decades of intellectual property experience in helping clients build and protect their businesses throughout the world. With multiple degrees in electrical engineering, Sterlon’s practice focuses on consumer electronics, computer hardware components, and software programs, semiconductor, material science, and automotive applications. His perspective is rooted in the nearly two decades he spent in Tokyo, where he worked with international and Japanese-based law firms on all aspects of protecting U.S. and international intellectual property rights.

Given his international focus, Sterlon is intimately familiar with developing global prosecution strategies for client’s seeking to maximize their portfolios. When working with clients on domestic applications, Sterlon handles all aspects of patent portfolio development from working alongside engineers through the invention disclosure process to patent office interviews and post-grant proceedings. He also regularly advises clients on conflict avoidance, invalidity and infringement opinions, and licensing of intellectual property and portfolio studies.

Before moving to Japan, Sterlon worked as a patent examiner with the United States Patent & Trademark Office and for the Washington, D.C.-offices of two international law firms. Sterlon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Morgan State University, a Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, and a Master’s of Laws in Intellectual Property Law from George Washington University.
