Nick is a registered patent agent with experience in the general areas of electrical engineering, information systems security, applied communications, and geographic information systems. His work focuses on all aspects of domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution from due diligence searches and application drafting through prosecution and post-grant reviews. Nick excels at helping clients create and implement comprehensive protection strategies tailored to their particular needs. His experience includes working on complex electrical and software technologies including wireless communications, machine learning applications, network-based marketplaces, customer relationship management (CRM) solutions, and encryption/decryption.
Before joining Sheridan Ross, Nick worked as a patent engineer and agent with a Denver-based law firm where he handled preparation and prosecution matters for various clients, including holding disclosure meetings with inventors, drafting patent applications, developing strategies for Office Action responses, drafting responses to Office Actions, drafting Appeal Briefs and Appeals, preparing attorneys for interviews with Examiners, and drafting claim charts. He also previously worked as a planning engineer with a Colorado-based utility company prior to entering the world of patents. In that role, Nick performed power flow and generator interconnection studies and developed a cost estimation tool for estimating potential costs of different projects. Nick earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering with an electrical specialty from the Colorado School of Mines.
