Summary of Practice:
Douglas W. Swartz is a principal with over fifteen
years of experience in patent prosecution, technology licensing,
and intellectual property counseling. Although Doug has broad
experience in prosecuting patents in a wide variety of technical
areas, he has extensive expertise in computer science, having
personally prepared, prosecuted, and supervised others in
the preparation and prosecution of hundreds of computer software
and hardware patents. Doug has represented both small and
large clients in negotiating and drafting license and other
technology transfer and development agreements with private
and governmental entities. His practice also includes the
preparation of patent validity and freedom-to-operate opinions
to assist clients in strategic planning.
During his career, Doug has
had a diverse clientele that includes computer hardware and
software vendors, telecommunications companies, textile manufacturers,
chemical suppliers, medical device manufacturers, mining companies,
water treatment companies, cellular equipment and system providers,
security system suppliers, optical device manufacturers, superconductor
and semiconductor device manufacturers, aluminum alloy sheet
manufacturers, and locomotive manufacturers.
Doug was a clerk for Justice
Erickson of the Colorado Supreme Court, an extern for Judge
Dorothy Nelson of the Ninth Circuit, and an associate for
other large law firms in Colorado and California.
