Mr. Posthumus is a technology lawyer with more than 22 years of experience litigating complex patent and trademark disputes and providing sophisticated IP counseling.
Mr. Posthumus has a national reputation for successfully and efficiently handling IP litigation matters, including jury and bench trials in federal courts across the U.S. He represents national and international companies in cases involving violations of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secrets. He is a lead enforcement counsel in trademark and unfair competition matters for an international real estate company.
Mr. Posthumus also advises clients and transactional attorneys on IP matters in mergers and acquisitions, employment disputes and licensing negotiations, as well as provides strategic advice on intellectual property portfolio development and management.
Mr. Posthumus has been recognized by Colorado Super Lawyers Magazine as one of Colorado's "Super Lawyers" since 2009 and was recognized as a Colorado "Top 100 Super Lawyer" in 2014 through 2016. He has been recognized by Chambers USA every year since 2009. Mr. Posthumus is listed in the 2013 and 2014 editions of IAM Patent 1000 identifying the world’s leading patent practitioners. Mr. Posthumus has served many leadership roles with the IP Section of the Colorado Bar Association and the International Trademark Association. Due to his prominence in the Colorado Bar and the IP community nationally, John was a driving force behind Colorado’s successful effort to be selected as a location for one of the regional U.S. Patent and Trademark Offices. It has been a passion project for John, resulting in countless hours of pro bono work, including many visits to Washington D.C. to meet with many senators, representatives, members of the Obama Administration, as well as leadership at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia.
