Jim Burke counsels clients in all areas of patent prosecution including counseling clients on portfolio protection strategies, patentability analysis, and drafting applications and freedom to operate opinions.

His experience includes work across a wide range of mechanical arts including medical and drug delivery devices, packaging technology, manufacturing and assembly methods, outdoor and recreation gear, bicycle components, structural components, and tooling and hardware.

Jim works with sole inventors, small and emerging businesses and well-established companies to help them evaluate their intellectual property in various marketplaces.  His practice regularly includes freedom-to-operate and invalidity opinions, interviewing inventors, drafting applications and prosecuting patents before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and abroad.  Jim also has experience in intellectual property litigation before U.S. Federal Courts.

Before his legal career, Jim’s studies related to fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, and engineering statistics.  Jim conducted NASA funded experimental research through Tufts University and the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama related to the high-speed solidification of steel alloys.  Jim also has project management experience in large scale power generation and energy delivery installations.
