DENVER -- (Nov. 15, 2011) – The Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) along with more than 50 volunteers will serve over 500 hearty meals to homeless and poor men, women and children at the Great Thanksgiving Banquet on Wed., Nov. 23. Governor John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock are the honorary hosts for the annual banquet.

This year’s Thanksgiving outreach is made possible by Sheridan Ross P.C., which is helping feed over 500 men, women and children. “It's an honor for Sheridan Ross to be a part of the Denver Rescue Mission's Great Thanksgiving Banquet,” Bruce Kugler, President of Sherdian Ross P.C. said. “With so many families and individuals struggling through one of the toughest economic periods most of us have experienced, we're grateful for this opportunity to give back to our community by sharing our time and financial resources through a partner as well respected as the Rescue Mission.”

The banquet is held at the DRM’s emergency outreach, Lawrence Street Shelter, 1130 Park Avenue West (corner Park Avenue and Lawrence) from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. A traditional Thanksgiving meal with slow roast turkey, mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing, green bean casserole, corn pudding, vegetables, orange cranberry sauce, rolls and assorted desserts will be enjoyed by all.

All guests in attendance will receive a new scarf, hat and pair of gloves to keep warm over the winter season. CenturyLink will also help connect individuals with loved ones by providing free long distance phone calls.

Thanksgiving is a special time to reach out to the poor and the homeless. It is a time of family, feast and celebration. The Denver Rescue Mission is joining more than 250 rescue missions across the nation in providing nearly 300,000 meals to the needy. With the help of thousands of turkey and canned food donations from the community this past month, working poor families and homeless men, women, and children will be cared for during the holidays.
